“No Nigerian Is Safe” – PRP Asks Tinubu To Step Down Amid Worsening Security Crisis
The Peoples Redemption Party has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign from office over the worsening state of insecurity across the country, accusing the Federal Government of failing to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
The opposition party made the call on Thursday amid growing outrage over the increasing wave of kidnappings, banditry and violent attacks across several states, including the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
The latest incident occurred on May 15 when suspected gunmen invaded three schools located in the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. During the attack, scores of pupils and teachers were reportedly abducted, leaving parents, residents and school authorities in shock.
The incident has since generated widespread condemnation from Nigerians, civil society groups and political stakeholders, with many demanding urgent reforms in the country’s security architecture.
Reacting to the development, the National Chairman of the PRP, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, described the current security situation under the Tinubu administration as alarming and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed said insecurity had spread beyond regions previously known for violent attacks, stressing that Nigerians across the country now live in fear regardless of their social status or geographical location.
According to him, the primary constitutional duty of any government is to protect citizens, adding that the current administration has failed woefully in that regard.
“It is now beyond any doubt that President Bola Tinubu has failed woefully in discharging his prime responsibility as Nigerian President, which is to secure the Nigerian citizen. Under his watch, old threats have blossomed and mutated, while more and more Nigerians, irrespective of status or age, have fallen victim to violent criminals,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
The PRP chairman lamented that the deteriorating security climate had exposed vulnerable groups, especially schoolchildren, to criminal attacks.
“From generals to toddlers; from Bama to Badagry, no Nigerian is safe under this leadership. It is no longer the case that only parts of the country have been virtually surrendered to criminals. Now, no Nigerian in any part of the country is protected from rampant violent criminals who exploit our major weakness,” he said.
He further noted that attacks on schools and the abduction of children had become increasingly frequent, warning that Nigerians must not normalize insecurity and violence.
“School children have joined the long stretch of soft targets, and the nation appears to be at the point of accepting this situation as normal. We must not submit to the weakness of leaders and the exploits of criminals. This is not how Nigerians should live,” he added.
Baba-Ahmed also accused President Tinubu of concentrating enormous powers around the Presidency without translating such authority into effective governance and security improvements.
“Our President has failed the nation, and there is no evidence that he can improve on his pathetic record. He has amassed all the power in the country around him, yet he has failed to use it to protect and defend Nigerians,” he said.
The former presidential aide argued that democratic governance must be anchored on accountability and responsibility, insisting that leaders who fail to deliver on core responsibilities should be held accountable.
According to him, in many democratic societies, leaders faced with such widespread insecurity and public dissatisfaction would be pressured to step aside.
“In most other democracies, President Tinubu’s failure to respect the values of accountability and responsibility would not have been tolerated. Nigerians must rise to demand an end to this ineptitude and indifference. President Tinubu should resign, now!” Baba-Ahmed declared.
The PRP further maintained that Nigerians could not afford to wait until the 2027 general elections before expressing dissatisfaction with the administration’s handling of insecurity.
The party argued that many citizens continued to lose their lives daily to violent attacks, kidnappings and banditry, making immediate action necessary.
“While he may have the luxury of ignoring our current deteriorating circumstances and awaiting the verdict of rejection by voters in 2027, Nigerians who will continue to fall victim to violent criminals do not have the luxury of waiting to vote him out in 2027,” he stated.
“There is nothing democratic in insisting that incompetent and uncaring leadership must complete terms. Nigerians should demand, with one voice, that President Tinubu’s failure to secure Nigerians cannot be tolerated any further.”
The criticism from the PRP comes amid increasing concerns over recurring incidents of banditry, kidnappings, communal clashes and attacks on rural communities in different parts of the country.
Security experts and political observers have repeatedly called for stronger intelligence gathering, improved policing and better coordination among security agencies to address the growing threats.
However, the Presidency has consistently defended the Tinubu administration’s efforts, insisting that the government inherited deep-rooted security challenges from previous administrations.
Officials of the Federal Government have also maintained that security agencies are being strengthened through increased funding, deployment of military operations and intelligence-driven strategies aimed at combating criminal activities nationwide.
Despite these assurances, many Nigerians continue to express frustration over the persistent insecurity affecting several communities across the country.
