Tinubu Condemns ‘Barbaric’ Plateau, Kaduna Killings; Orders Immediate Rescue
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks and abductions in Plateau and Kaduna States, describing the perpetrators as “heartless cowards” and vowing that they will be brought to justice.
The attacks, which occurred in the Angwan Rukuba district of Jos and Kahir village in Kaduna’s Kagarko Local Government Area, resulted in multiple fatalities and the abduction of several citizens, including wedding guests.
‘Soft Targets and Reprisals’
In a statement issued Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President warned that the attackers are targeting defenceless citizens to trigger a cycle of ethnic and religious bloodletting.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens… is a heartless coward,” the President stated. “By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also to trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks.”
Directives to Security Agencies
President Tinubu has directed security forces to intensify intelligence-led operations to track down the killers and ensure the immediate rescue of all abductees from Kahir village.
He also issued a stern warning against the spread of misinformation, specifically cautioning the media against framing the violence as religiously motivated, which he noted could further escalate regional tensions.
State Collaboration and Modern Warfare
The President commended Governors Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau) and Uba Sani (Kaduna) for their swift containment efforts and pledged continued federal support to both states.
To bolster the fight against banditry, the President revealed that the Federal Government is currently acquiring advanced technology to track criminals in real-time.
“Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies to track and smash criminals, in real-time, wherever they are,” Tinubu added.
The President expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attacks.
