Anambra Police Exhume Body of Man ‘Murdered and Buried’ by Cousin

Detectives from the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have recovered the remains of 52-year-old Chinedu Ezeani, who was allegedly murdered and buried in a shallow grave by his cousin eight months ago.

The gruesome discovery was made in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, following a breakthrough in a case originally reported as a missing person incident.

The Confession and Recovery

The suspect, 35-year-old Chukwudalu Ezeani, was arrested following “credible intelligence” that shifted the focus of the investigation. Police reports indicate the crime took place on August 1, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The suspect allegedly killed the victim at his residence in Afube Village and buried the body within his own compound. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and led detectives to the site for exhumation.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the remains have been deposited in a mortuary for forensic examination. The suspect faces charges in court once investigations are concluded.
