NYSC Official Arrested Over Death of Female Corps Member in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has taken a Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abass Olalekan, into custody following the death of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
The deceased, who was serving in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly died on Tuesday due to complications linked to a pregnancy. Sources within the NYSC allege that the LGI was romantically involved with Ms. Ariyo prior to her passing.
Investigation into Fatal Complications
Reports indicate that Ms. Ariyo suffered medical complications following a procedure to terminate a pregnancy. She was subsequently buried at the Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road.
The incident has caused significant concern within the scheme, as it marks the second death of a female corps member in the same local government within a few weeks. Another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who was posted to Ogun State Television (OGTV), recently died under circumstances that remain unclear. The two women were reportedly close associates.
Police Confirmation
While the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the investigation, he remained silent on the specific details of the LGI’s arrest.
“I can confirm that the case of the demise of Victoria Ariyo is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department,” Babaseyi stated.
However, a separate police source confirmed that Mr. Olalekan is currently being held at the Command’s Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as detectives work to establish the facts surrounding the case.
